This was a night that was truly unforgettable. After getting lost for over 30 miles on the trail I had finally gotten back to camp. A few moments later exhausted and in pain a friend I had met on the trail asked if I wanted to join them for a camp fire. Even though I was in so much pain I didn't want to miss out on what life had to offer. I grabbed my gear, ran through the shower and made my way to my friends camp site.

Chatting around the fire we talked about adventures we had. About getting lost on the trail and how it took forever to get back to my car. Mid way into my story my chair broke while sitting around the fire. Laughing I was so embarrassed I couldn't believe my luck for the day.

The conversation rolled back to my photography. I began to discuss with my new found friends about the Northern Lights. I checked the data and saw there was a spike in activity. Excited I asked if they wanted to join me. Both of them had never seen the Northern Lights before. We hoped in my car and made our way to Au Train Beach in Au Train, Michigan. Parking the car we made our way to the beach.

Immediately I saw the Northern Lights. In the beginning it was a faint glowing cloud of green. Barely visible to the naked eye. I made my first exposure and showed the company around me what I had captured. Ecstatic that they were seeing the lights for the first time they began to be able to make out the faint green glow. As time passed on the lights pushed south and the data began to spike.

All of a sudden the Aurora's burst into a wall of dancing pillars and light. Casting different hues of red, pink, purple, and green. It is a moment I will never forget. Being able to share that moment with two people who had never seen the lights before. And to have them witness a show where they truly got spoiled.

The whole energy of the moment was unreal. Standing there on the shores of Lake Superior I looked out over the lake. Watching the pillars of light move in the night sky. Humbled by this sight, I was glad I pushed myself so I could capture this moment.
